Main Branch Children’s Programming Welcome to the Hardin County Public Library’s Children’s Department! We have several class options that meet the needs of our youngest patrons. We are committed to promoting early literacy and kindergarten readiness. We are also here to support your school age children’s needs through age appropriate programming, book recommendations, and school research assistance. Registration is not required for classes and events, unless specifically noted. Class times and dates can be found on our Facebook page and on calendars that are available for pickup in the Children’s Department. Class selections and times are occasionally changed throughout the year to better meet the needs of our patrons. Therefore, please feel free to call the Children’s Department for updates. Reduced programming is scheduled during school breaks (Hardin County School System). Classes may be cancelled in case of bad weather. Email: Facebook: Hardin County Public Library: Children’s Department Baby & Me Enjoy songs, rhymes, and play with other babies and caregivers. Older siblings are welcome to attend, as well as grandparents and other family members! (0-24 months) Younger Preschool This is a transitional class for little ones who can’t quite sit through a full story time, but are ready to give it a try. Learn the alphabet through books, crafts, and songs! (Ages 2-3) Older Preschool This class is a full length story time. Join us on a 1000 Book Journey, with crafts, songs, and show and tell (Please bring a small item)! The last half of class is devoted to STEM play or group activities. Snacks are occasionally served in this class. Please alert the librarian of any food allergies, or bring your own snack on days that food is being served as noted on calendar. This class can occasionally get messy, so please dress to mess! (Ages 3 - 6) Wonderful Wednesdays! Our Wednesday programming is extra fun! WW can be a tea party, pirate day, a library safari, or other wonderful adventures! Check the calendar for details. Snacks are occasionally served in this class, please alert the librarian of any food allergies! Registration is necessary when noted on calendar. (Ages 2-6) Evening Story Time This informal evening class is a mix of Baby & Me and Preschool Story Hours. The librarian will change the class based on the age of children in attendance. After School Zone Kids choose the topics, play games, and make crafts. We often focus on a theme and matching craft over several meetings. We may choose themed books to check out for the next week, but assigned reading is NOT mandatory. Sample themes include sharks, knights, mermaids, etc. (Grades K-5th grade) Stories and Tails This program allows children and families to read aloud to a therapy dog, which can improve reading and communication skills. Permission slips are provided for guardians to sign before children can participate. Legos @ the Library Large and small Legos are provided, along with an optional theme. After the masterpieces are created, they are put on display in the main part of the library!
